Knight takes radish

Let us give thanks for Ms G. a teacher who lightheartedly sacrificed her Thursday lunchtimes to run the Grade 3 Chess Club. Ms G passionately encouraged chess. She saw how some children found that it helped them to concentrate, she noticed how in others it improved their reasoning, she witnessed the development of polite competitive spirit, but most of all Ms G. knew that there were certain kids who did not want to go outside for recess when it was -10 °C, and she did not blame them. The grown up game made eight year olds feel empowered, and because it was introduced during childhood they would never be intimidated by chess. Now that exact same theory might also be applied to eating red radishes; but most third graders still prefer to munch on crackers.
