space carrots

They grew different types of lettuce on the International Space Station: Dragoon Lettuce which is a compact, crunchy variety of Romaine, and Red Russian Kale, a sweet and soft leaf which is actually more purple than red. They served it as a snack on Thanksgiving Day in November 2018. No one mentioned the carrots previously smuggled aboard by roguish astronaut Chris Hatfield, he grew them to the optimum size then nibbled the best of them down into perfect organic guitar pics, because as everyone knows you can never have enough guitar pics in space. The extra carrots were jettisoned through an airlock and were expected to reenter Earth’s atmosphere. The folks at NASA still cannot explain why and how those first space carrots were instead swept out beyond the exosphere. On a beautiful clear evening you can imagine them hurtling towards the stars, whistling Bowie songs, planning their revenge.
