Shot with the requirements for the Utata.org Picture this May 2008 project in mind.
So, after an hours long walk I returned to the trainstation of the town of Boom in the province of Antwerp, Belgium.I was still looking around and noticed this old woman standing in the doorway of a block of flats, on the opposite side of the street. I thought by myself ; "If I just could take that old woman's portrait, it would be great !" But I know that Muslims do not like having their picture taken because for them, it is not done.So I did not think any more of it untill I saw that the woman beckoned me towards her, I crossed the road and she started mumbling words to me but to my regret I did not understand anything she wanted to make clear to me.I tried in english, french, german, a little russian but I did not understand her.It kinda frustrated me because she clearly wanted to convey something to me.I pointed my camera towards her, gesticulated that I wanted to take her picture and she did not show any signs that she didn't like it, so I took some photos.I'm still puzzled by what she wanted to tell me...
