Painted Pebbles

Seldon Scott

In 1736 a slave, brought from Africa via the West Indies, died in Sunderland Point. He was buried in an unconsecrated plot overlooking Morecambe Bay. A few years later his grave was marked by a local clergyman and now it is regularly visited by schoolchildren who leave toys, flowers and painted pebbles. This is part of a group of messages left by local schoolchildren.
