after the flood, after the vandals

Greg Fallis

There's a creek maybe a hundred yards away from this trailer court. Last summer it flooded--one of those 'once in a century' floods--and the trailers were inundated. The city condemned them all, bought the properties, and moved the inhabitants. To insure nobody would continue to live in the trailers, the city removed all the doors (though somebody attempted to secure this one with a bit of sheet rock). The lack of doors, of course, attracted vandals. Any personal property left behind was either stolen or vandalized. Nobody has bothered to clean up the mess left behind.
