dogwood

Paul Pomeroy

Not really sure what's normal for the western side of Virginia but it seems to me that spring arrives late there (or at least did this year). Interesting fact about the dogwood flower: what you might think are large pink flower petals are actually "bracts" or modified leaves. The actual flowers are tiny and are located in the center of the bracts.

Taken while out for a walk my first morning in Winchester, Virginia.
