as soft and sharp as tiny fish bones

Greg Fallis

So I'm walking down this alley, right? And this guy, he comes sloping out of the rear door of one of the buildings, and he starts scampering away, all the while muttering something to himself. So I'm tearing off my gloves so I can use the camera, and in my head I'm hearing the White Rabbit from Alice ("Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!"), and I'm pressing the shutter release even before I get the viewfinder to my eye. And before I can take another shot, the guy darts in the rear door of another building.

I wait there for a bit in case he decides to pop back out again, on account of I know this shot is blurry. But no. As I'm standing there in the alley, it occurs to me the guy might not have been muttering at all. Now I'm thinking he was making that sound you make when you accidentally swallow a fish bone and it gets stuck in your throat. Which means this guy was almost certainly practicing his Gollum voice.

I'll admit there may be a slight flaw in my reasoning. Still, i sorta kinda like this shot, even if it's blurry. So here it is.
