tw521 | Rautendelein, Bruchmühlbach

Martin Suess

The word Rautendelein is carved in this stone, nobody knows by whom or why. I never heard the word before, it is the name of a fairy in the now forgotten play Die versunkene Glocke from Gerhart Hauptmann.
A former inhabitant of Bruchmühlbach emigrated to Australia where he met a british WWII veteran who claimed that the word was a code word (RAUT END ELEIN) leading lost allied solders to the Saar region (that story makes no sense to me as well).
