Empty Court

Greg Fallis

I was struck by the emptiness of this pristine suburban basketball court. The net and backboard were perfectly white. It was a full-size court. And nobody was there playing. In all the years I lived in New York City, I never once saw an empty court...no matter what time it was. I never saw a backboard that wasn't banged up, I never saw a net that wasn't frayed. It gave this empty court a weird, Twilight Zone feel.
