I was struggling to come up with ideas for this year's "Utata Breaks the Rules" summer project. The answer was to drink heavily in the company of old friends.Actually, that story is the wrong way round. First it was my 50th birthday. Second the old friends met up in Edinburgh to celebrate. Then came the heavy drinking and finally the idea to use the brightly lit backgrounds in The City Cafe to break the normal rules of portraiture.
