Even in less than desirable parts of town these Islands of Light seem to offer safe haven, a refuge from the dark streets. Of course when you go in to pay or pick up a cold soda and interact with a clerk behind bullet-proof glass, you realize that the light merely provides an illusion of safety. I'm sure the clerk is thinking about every customer... "is this going to be one with a gun?"... I know I would.
