Reflection of Things Past

The Roy Studio was run by three generations of the Roy family of photographers. They created more than 300,000 negatives and prints from 1896 to 1992 in documenting the history of Peterborough in addition to their commercial studio photography business.

The collection was saved from languishing in obscurity when the co-founder of Research In Motion, Jim Balsillie — who grew up in Peterborough — purchased it in 2000 and donated it to the City of Peterborough. I can't help but note the histori-poetical justice of a sire of the Blackberry being associated with a photographic collection containing some historic street photographs of Peterborough.
