The Semantic Photographer

--As we grow older, do we become jaded to beauty and wonder? Perhaps it’s a temporary blindness caused by the mundaneness of daily survival? Perhaps we become so caught up in living, bringing up children and creating a career, that we become too busy to notice anything other than the immediately obvious. Son’s scraped knee, daughter’s skirt too short - you know how it is, I’m sure.

I do hope that age and wisdom bring back my natural ability to ‘see’, so that I slow down and rediscover the world in all its beauty. My new year’s resolution this year was to stop and look at all the things I routinely drive past in a furious hurry to get from A to B and in those few months, I have discovered more things about my local area than I did in 20 years of living here. My interest in photography is changing my neural receptors from firing GO GO GO to ‘ooohhh, that looks interesting’…..--
