English Heritage has submitted an application to the Department of Culture Media and Sports recommending a grade two listing of the Excalibur estate. However there is no guarantee that the DCMS will list the estate.

What would happen to the people of the Excalibur if they are unsuccessful in there campaign to keep the estate as it is today. Jim told me everyone has been offered a new house with a garden in the area, and many could find themselves back in a new house on the Excalibur site.

All the residents are happy with their prefabs and where they live now. There is a sense of community, which you can feel as you walk around the estate. This would disappear if the bulldozers moved in.

Is it an advance to house people in brand new housing at the expense of community?
