roasted hazelnuts

Don’t overlook these dainty little hazelnuts. Imagine, in the tradition of mindful meditation training, that you had landed from Mars and this is the first thing you see.

Don’t pass by without considering the smoothness of the shell and the indentation where it was once attached, via papery husk to a hazel tree.

The way it might rattle if you picked one up and shook it by your ear.

And they are roasted, so there’s the smell.

And take a moment to let that light play over your outstretched hand. For just a moment imagine you are a hazelnut warmed by a strip of winter sun.
