Seven thousand years, we’ve been drumming. Seven thousand. Longer, probably. Longer, yes, absolutely longer. But seven thousand formally, seven thousand with an instrument created entirely for the purpose of percussive rhythm. Seven thousand years. When they built the pyramids of Egypt, we’d already been drumming on frame drums for two thousand years. We’ll be drumming for two thousand years after they’ve been ground to dust. We will, because drumming is music you feel, in bone and body. It’s skeletal music, it’s gut music, it’s god music, it’s good god gut bone music and it rides on you and you ride on it and if you let it, it will carry you away like some ancient god of horses, hooves pounding on hard packed sand.
