Thursday Walk 274

I don't think it's a coincidence that Utata bills itself as "Tribal Photography". It's so McLuhan-esque. Indeed this is a special day. One hundred years ago today in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Marshall McLuhan was born. Say who? You know, the guy who coined the term, "the medium is the message", "the global village" and had a cameo in Woody Allen's 1976 film, "Annie Hall". More importantly, this University of Toronto predicted the Internet and social media before they were invented. He predicted that the youth of the world would go all primitive and tribalize in the face of faceless bureaucracy and lack of jobs. Poverty is visible when there is affluence, otherwise it's just hardship. On a hot day I snuck into an air-conditionned theatre and caught a retrospective of this prophetic thinker. So, on this auspicious anniversary, get out in the world and take photographs.
