This series of photos is ostensibly about a group of similar things, namely shop windows in downtown Peterborough. But in working on this project I had a number of ideas and philosophies to approach it with. In a sense it is a photo-documentary about my city's downtown and it is also a meditation on technique and what it means to be a photographer today. I've narrated each photo with quotes from a collection of essays published in 1998 by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography that tried to sum up the state of Canadian fine art photography at the time. It was with those essays swimming in my mind that accompanied me on my walks as well as the spirit of Fred Herzog.
