Young Germans Train to Obey Race's Leaders and Die When Ordered

Toronto Saturday March 3rd 1934

A piece of pre war fear was hidden in our home. In 1934 a widow woman moved in and raised her family in this house. War started, war ended, there were other wars. Next door a jewish woman and her husband, the child of Italian and French post war emigres, moved in. Toronto grew. The widow's children grew up, she died and was replaced by another woman and her ex soldier boyfriend. A German guy and his Can-merican wife moved in on the other side. We showed up here with our global mutt family. Then one day I ripped down the kitchen wall, found the Telegram and started to wonder about the geezer in the 1930's who'd used a newspaper as a filler. Did his pipes freeze that winter? Did he join up? Did he shop at Eatons? Did he ever imagine some funny little woman would be pulling down his walls one day?
