the grass needs mowing

Having a catchy name or tag line helps. Sometimes serendipity handles that for you - Weed for county chairman in a field of tall grass, Grammer for school board, Bill (Bull) Dosier for county permit chair. Sometimes it makes it easy for the competition to make attack ads - "It's time to cut the Weeds", "Grammer can't even spell grammar - is he qualified for school board?"
Attack ads are very effective, playing to our natural negativity and distrust. But they can also backfire, if they are perceived as too personal or too rude. This is especially the case in a small town, where personal attacks can hit close to home, literally. But, as another political sign in town states: "This ain't Mayberry anymore".
