The first eight flatcars purchased by the Monson Railroad were 26' long. They were numbered 9 through 16. All but No. 9 saw regular use hauling various materials. Most of them were used in hauling slate from the quarry operations north of town down to Monson Junction with the Bangor & Aroostook RR and bringing goods back on the return trip.
Modeled here are, from front to back, cars number 15, 16, and 14, with loads they are known to have carried.
Grave markers for John F. Kennedy and for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Arlington Cemetery are made of black slate from Monson, Maine. They were also engraved in Monson.
