Dreams I Might Have Had

The Curse of 'Green Gills' Garson (part 6)

I wake with a start. The hopeless mood with which I fell to sleep is replaced by an excitement and desire to see Rosa and my son. Could it be true? It felt so real it must be.

I set sail for Mevagissey and shout into the wind, "I'm coming home!". I sail for what seems like an eternity before I start to recognise coastline. I pass Port Mellon, but still can't bear to look towards the shore. That foul pirate is not going to get in my way this time. I sail on and into Mevagissey. The harbour is exactly as I remember it in the dream. The tide is low so I manage to ground the 'Mellon Runner'. I jump off onto the harbour bed and rush to tether the boat to a nearby chain. I suddenly realise that I am able to breathe. Rosa was right, there's no such thing as a curse.

Being on dry land feels strange after so long at sea, but I find my legs and run along the harbour bank. I run past boats and over ropes, towards the cottage that Rosa showed me. I can see it, the lights are on but something stops me dead in my tracks. No, it can't be. That's not possible. Please let me be dreaming...
