Dreams I Might Have Had

The Curse of 'Green Gills' Garson (part 3)

The curse that was bestowed upon me that night had previously been a thing of legend and folklore. 'Green Gills' had himself been cursed many years ago by an old smuggler. The story tells how he had boarded the smugglers boat, but the smuggler was waiting for 'Green Gills'. They got into a fight and after a lengthy struggle, 'Green Gills' drove his dagger into the smuggler's heart. As the smuggler bled to death he cursed 'Green Gills', banishing him to forever walk the land and never return to the seas. In retribution for his curse, the legend warns of how 'Green Gills' now haunts the ports and coastal villages, cursing folk and banishing them to the sea forever, never to walk on land again.

The dream changes, I am standing on the shore at Port Mellon, back at home. I don't recognise the buildings on the hillside, but the distinctive seaweed clings to the sand like thick snow on tree branches. The sun sits heavy in the sky and the clouds hint at a sunny day ahead. The general sense of calm is overwhelming. I hear a lady singing. I recognise the tune, I recognise the voice.
