Dreams I Might Have Had

The Curse of 'Green Gills' Garson (part 4)

Surely it can't be her? I look towards the singing. It is her. It's Rosa! She walks with her head bowed carrying a bundle of sheets. I run across the beach to her and she looks up at me. She looks so beautiful that my heart stops for a moment and time stands still. I open my arms to embrace her but notice that the bundle is a swaddled baby, his eyes so familiar. My heart then sinks as I realise that she has moved on and started a family with someone else. That was our dream. Tears fill my eyes and I prepare to speak. She gently places a finger on my lips, "Shhhh! don't cry. This is your son. I named him after you Jake."

I'm overwhelmed with a sense of love and pride mixed with an awful sickening loss that wrenches at my stomach. My curse suddenly feels much, much worse.
